LOUSY LAWMAKER OF THE DAY:

South Carolina governor Nikki Haley recently vetoed half a million dollars allocated to domestic violence and sexual assault prevention. According to Haley’s “logic,”

“…these special add-on lines distract from the [Department of Health and Environmental Control’s] broader mission of protecting South Carolina’s public health.”

Ah, yes. How can we expect to protect public health when we’re too busy protecting public health?

Governor Haley’s veto implies that sexual and domestic violence are in a category outside the realm of “real” public health, further marginalizing those impacted by instances of abuse. Swell.

LOUSY LAWMAKER OF THE DAY:

Joe Walsh (R-IL) continues to criticize double-amputee opponent Tammy Duckworth for her military service. Last week, you’ll recall he implied that she is not a “true hero,” resulting in justified uproar across veterans and the media.

During a weekend townhall, he refused to back down from previous statements and added that”she talks about her service too much.”

Yeah! Since when is prior job experience relevant in a political campaign, anyway?

LOUSY LAWMAKER OF THE DAY:

Senator Rand Paul attempted to tack a personhood amendment onto a completely unrelated flood insurance bill. According to Jezebel:

“Paul’s amendment, which he calls the Life at Conception Act, declares that zygotes have the same rights as, say, air traffic controllers or rodeo clowns from the moment the magical man sperm magicks all over the egg. The law would ostensibly outlaw abortion and many forms of contraception, in addition to making IVF more difficult.”

Harry Reid was not having any of that nonsense.

LOUSY LAWMAKER OF THE DAY:

South Carolina governore Nikki Haley vetoed a bill to provide free HPV vaccinations for seventh-grade girls. According to State Representative Bakari Sellers:

“This bill had bipartisan support and gives optional education and preventative vaccines to adolescents in an effort to thwart cervical cancer…To call this measure unnecessary is demeaning and insulting to the heroic women who fight this cancer everyday. I am deeply disappointed that politics once again has prevailed over women’s health.”

Michigan state representative Frank Foster called Michigan Nurses Association staffer Julia Smith-Heck a “cunt” while visiting her neighborhood.

What ignited the hostility?

She was mowing her lawn.
